Nucleoid of Bacteria

Nucleoid :

• The nuclear material or DNA of bacteria aggregates to form irregular shaped dense body called nucleoid.
• Discrete Chromosome and Nuclear membrance is absent in bacteria.
• The nuclear material or DNA is present near the centre of cell.
• The nuclear material is composed of single,circular and double stranded DNA molecule.
• It has large DNA molecule.
• The DNA is tightly folded and fit inside the cell components.
• Bacteria has single chrosome so bacteria aere haploid.
• Nucleoid is visible after staining with Feulgen stain.
• Escherchia coli closed circle schrosome measure approximately 14000um.
