John Hogg :
He proposed kingdom Protoctista for microorganisms in 1961.
Ernst Haeckel :
He suggested kingdom Protista in 1966.He included in this kingdom bacteria and all other microorganisms like amoeba.He included all microorganisms that do not fit in two major kingdom Plant kingdom & Animal Kingdom.He included bacteria and blue green algae in this kingdom.However, he separated blue green algae & bacteria from nucleated protists.He placed bacteria and blue green algae in another group "Monera" within the Kingdom Protists.
Herbert Copeland :
He separated prokaryotes from the kingdom protista and raised the prokaryotes to a status of separated kingdom.
Robert Whittaker :
He formed five kingdom classification system.He included unicellular eukaryotes in the Kingdom protista.
Margulis & Schwartz :
They modified the five kingdom classification system of Robert Whittaker.They also included colonial and simple multicellular organisms in kingdom Protistsa.Now kingdom Protista or Protoctista have unicellular,colonial & simple multicellular organisms.
