Types of receptors : Receptors are organs which detect change in any internal and extrrnal environment of animal.Receptors are elements of Nervous coordination.A few receptors are dwscribed below along with their examples :
Chemoreceptors:
These receptors 'are used fer smell. taste and for blood oxygen
blood glucose. amino acids and fatty acids (receptors in the hypothalamus). .
Mechanoreceptors:
These receptors detect stimuli of touch (free nerve endings +
expanded tip ending + stray endings), pressure, hearing and equilibrium.
Photoreceptors: (electromagnetic receptors),
These receptor sense stimuli for light.e.g rods and cones cells of eyes:
Thermo receptors: Show response to cold and warmth environment.
Nociceptors: (Undifferentiated endings) They produce the sensation of pain.
There are many receptors which respond to the mechanical conditions of the internal organs. Examples are the receptors stomach wall. It produces hunger. '
Such receptors are found in are carotid and aortic arteries of tetrapods help in the regulation of blood pressure.
Nerve endings with similar characteristics are found in the hronchial vessels of fishes. .
