Combustion analysis calculations

The organic compound which simply consist of C,O and H can be analysed by combustion analysis. The Sole products are CO2 , H2O.These products formed as a result of combustion analysis are collected separately.

Steps of Combustion Analysis :

  • The Organic compound are weigh.
  • Then organic compound is placed in combustion tube.
  • The tube is fitted in combustion chamber.
  • Hydrogen is converted in water
  • Carbon is converted in carbon dioxide.
  • Water is absorbed by potassium per magnate.
  • Carbon dioxide is absorbed by 50% KOH.
The Difference in the masses of these absorbers gives the amount of water and carbon dioxide produced.

% of Hydrogen = Mass of water / Mass of organic compound . 2/18 . 100

% of Carbon = Mass of Co2 / Mass of organic compound  12/44 .100

% of Oxygen = 100 - (% of H + % of C )
